Okay, so you’re sick and tired of being stuck at home, staring at the same four walls, going through the same monotonous routine, just counting down the days until you get a two-week all-inclusive break at a holiday resort packed full of like-minded individuals, and you’ve therefore decided to do something different.
Some people take up a new hobby, others make a lavish purchase such as a sports car or a bigger home, but what about when you want to broaden your horizons and go exploring?
Well, in that case, I strongly recommend that you pack your cases, book your tickets, and go travelling.
Travelling is something that I’ve always been passionate about, and always will be passionate about, which is why I create these articles in the first place, as well as to give something back.
If you’re thinking of travelling the world but are hesitant to pull the trigger, here are se7en good reasons to travel the world, which I think will convince you to go.
You’ll discover yourself
Without sounding too cheesy or cliché, one of the best things about travelling the world is the fact that it will teach you things about yourself that you never knew existed.
When you go travelling, you aren’t just relaxing and being lazy on holiday by the pool or beach.
You are essentially living your life, looking after yourself, and fending for yourself in a foreign land.
You’ll learn new things and traits about yourself that you never knew existed.
By the time you return from your travels, if indeed you do decide to do so, you’ll know yourself better than ever before, which can only be a good thing.
Travel opens your eyes and your mind
Another fantastic reason to go travelling is so that you can open your eyes and your mind.
Travel can make even the most stubborn of people more open-minded, which in turn will give them a new outlook on life and will make them a great deal more tolerant and accepting of others.
When most people go travelling, they don’t just visit the glitzy and glamourous places you see on Instagram, they visit the rundown, desolate, and sometimes heart-breaking places to see how other people and other cultures live.
After travelling the world, it’s virtually inevitable that you will return a great deal more open-minded than when you left.
You’ll embrace the unknown
One of the main reasons why I got so interested in travelling was because I found myself growing bored of the ‘rat race’ as it was known, whereby I was doing the same things over and over again, week in and week out.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with that, but for me, I like a little uncertainty in my life, as it keeps me on my toes.
One of the best things about travelling the world is that you’ll embrace the unknown.
You’re travelling somewhere you’ve never been before, so you’ll basically be a complete stranger.
You won’t know the area, the etiquette, the weather, or what is happening from one day to the next.
As a result of this, you’ll find yourself embracing the unknown rather than fearing it.
You’ll meet new people and make new friends
Another fantastic reason to pack your bags and jet or sail abroad somewhere new is that travelling is a great way to meet new people and make new friends.
When travelling the world you’ll learn new cultures, customs, and traditions, which instantly gives you something to talk about as you can ask questions and learn as you go.
Once the ice has been broken you’ll have common ground and before you know it you’ll be making new friends and meeting countless people along the way.
You’ll try some of the best food and drink imaginable
Whether you’re backpacking around Eastern Europe, camping in Finland, or trekking through Cambodia, when you travel the world, another awesome perk is the fact that you’ll get to try some of the best food and drink imaginable.
I’m a foodie and I love trying new food and drink.
When you travel the world, you get to try signature dishes from your chosen destination, along with street food, snacks, and local delicacies.
From curries and soups to pizza, pasta, and everything in between, travelling the world will give you the chance to try the food and drinks you’ve likely never tried before, and you will almost certainly be blown away when you try them and will quickly become a fan for life.
The only problem will be satisfying your cravings for your newly discovered overseas delicacies once you return home from your travels.
Better chance of a tan
If you plan on backpacking around the arctic, or perhaps Eastern Europe in the winter, you might want to ignore this next benefit.
If, though, you plan on doing what hundreds of thousands of travellers do each year, and go travelling in the summer months around places renowned for hot sunshine, you’re in luck.
When you return from a holiday in the sun with a tan, there’s a great sense of pride, even accomplishment, that you receive when somebody compliments you on how tanned you are.
After several weeks/months travelling the world, when you return home to the cold, damp, and grey drizzly weather, you’ll certainly stand out thanks to the awesome tan you’ve picked up on your travels.
You’ll see some amazing sights
Our planet is home to some truly astonishing sights.
From famous monuments and landmarks to natural phenomena such as the Northern Lights, we really do have it all.
Travelling the world is a great way to see sights that most people can only ever dream of seeing.
You’ll get to see gorgeous countryside and scenery, as well as rich and diverse wildlife and nature, and much more besides.
Just make sure that you do get plenty of photos and videos, as these are the memories you’ll want to cherish forever, and capturing them on camera is a great way of doing exactly that.
